World Hoop Day Event Today At Clark Park

Come Hoop, Dance, Play With Us To Celebrate World Hoop Day!!!

Where: Clark Park (43rd and Baltimore)
When: 8-8-08 From 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

DJ's.....
Hoop Instruction........
Hula Hoop Contest & Hoop Prizes............
Hoop Performances By Members Of The Philly Hoopers.............

Since 2007, World Hoop Day has been dedicated to bringing toy and dance hoops to underprivileged children living in extreme poverty and underdeveloped neighborhoods of our world. Founded by Annie O'Keeffe, World Hoop Day is a not for profit organization that uses a community-based approach to provide durable hoops. The adult-sized hoops can be used their entire life as a simple and effective way to bring joy to an otherwise devastating situation.

There are many aid organizations who provide food and medical relief, but what about the mental welfare of a child who grows up too quickly and hardly has a reason to smile or play or just be a child? To date 1,100 hoops have been given away, and a total amount of $1,500 has been raised. The simple hoop has positive physical and mental health benefits, stimulates imaginations, and enables feelings of pure joy and bliss.

Hope To See You There :)

Calling all therapists and would-be cuddlers

Dear Friends:

My name is Edie Weinstein-Moser, MSW, LSW and I am a PA licensed Social Worker who has been in the field since 1985. I have worked in various inpatient, outpatient, nursing home and home based settings with populations ranging from children to geriatric. In the past several years my focus has been co-occurring disorders, life challenging illnesses, trauma and abuse recovery and adjustment to loss and grief. I am also an interfaith minister, energy worker and journalist. One thing that ties these seemingly disparate careers together is that I am also a certified facilitator for a workshop called Cuddle Party www.cuddleparty.com is the website.

Cuddle Party is a 3 1/2 hour workshop for adults that focuses on offering communication, boundary setting and relationship skill sets. Individuals and couples of all ages are welcome. It is not therapy, but rather, education. It does, however have therapeutic value. Participants attend in pajamas, sweats or yoga clothes. They learn to experience safe nurturing touch in a structured setting. In our culture, unfortunately, touch for most people is limited, non-existent, abusive or sexual. Rare is the person who gives and receives an abundance of health sustaining touch on a regular basis. That's where Cuddle Party provides beautiful benefit.

Benefits include: improved communication, deepening intimacy with family and friends, enhanced relationships, new friendships, an opportunity for trauma survivors to learn that touch can be safe and healing, a sense of belonging, elevated self esteem, meeting touch needs in healthy, non-sexual ways and some people have been known to lose weight as a result, since they are now substituting nurturing touch for comfort food. In addition, when people experience healthy touch and a sense of bonding, the chemical oxytocin kicks in. Although the focus for most people is the touch component, those who participate learn what I call 'portable skills' that help them relate better to the world around them.

A growing number of therapists are referring clients to these workshops and I am asking that you do the same. Now, here comes the fun part....in order for you to do so, it would help if you had first hand experience by attending a Cuddle Party workshop. Here is the schedule over the next few months:

Delicious December Cuddle Party
Saturday December 1, 2007 2-5:30 pm
Mt. Laurel, NJ Host: Lisa Balter

December De-Light Cuddle Party!
Sunday December 9, 2007 2-5:30
Doylestown, PA Host: Maria Starr

Fireside Cuddle Party
Saturday December 15, 2007
Woodstock, MD Hosts: Kelly Whitlow and George Kimber

Celebrating the Love Cuddle Party
Saturday February 9, 2008 2-5:30 pm
Columbia, MD Host: Amy Storm

$40 per person, or $30 per person if you register with a friend. When I think about the value of it, we are talking about $8.75- $11.45 per hour for a workshop that teaches invaluable life skills. What a bargain:)

My website is www.liveinjoy.com

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me 215-249-9190 or 215-738-8668 Please share this with your colleagues and friends as well.

Thank you.

restaurant recommendations

Our 10th wedding anniversary is coming up in about a week. I'm looking for recommendations on excellent restaurants in the Philadelphia area. My wife prefers something with fairly standard fare (specifically, she's looking to have a good steak, since we eat very little of that on a regular basis).

Ideally, we want something in or around the northwestern suburbs, since we'll be leaving our toddler with a babysitter, and we don't want to be *too* far away in case of problems. Going into the city is also an option, but not the preferred one.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

The event looks to be a branch off of a yearly event in Boston?? i think. well anyway has anyone heard anything, any flyers/info floating around??
thanks

. Basically it looks really bad if the senate bill 1162 & house bill 2697 don’t pass in November. SEPTA plans on eliminating weekend service and reducing weekday service by 20% while increasing fares. There is more information at this site http://www.savetransit.org. Most city representatives are cosponsors to the bills, but if you know anyone in PA please ask them to write their legislators to support this bill. Particularly if you know someone outside of Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. To find your legislator’s contact information go to (http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/find.cfm). www.saveourtransit.org has sample letters or you can just tell them to vote yes on SB 1162 & HB2697.

In Philadelphia there are countless sites to appreciate art, but what about outside the city? Bucks County is famous for it's various art sites and movements - what about your county? 'Great' art is for you to define by the way.

Feel free to include or leave out whatever is appropriate, but generally speaking, we are looking for who you are, what you do, what you like or don't like about your part of SE PA, and what parts of SE PA you know and love. Think of this as a tribe specific addendum to your profile.

Where are the best junk shops, antique shops, junk yards, auction houses, flea markets, etc. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of the Q-Mart in Quakertown, the little flea market in Neshaminy, the Crafty Flea consignment shop in Middletown, the big flea market at the Philadelphia Park Racetrack, and Old Mill Antiques in Hulmeville. Where do you go to see great stuff that you just can't find in retail?

Where is the best place in SE PA to get good music? Where's the best used CD joint? Where's the best place to hear good live music? Where's the best place to hear a fantastic DJ? What's the club you have to be at every week? Where can you hear a great big band or symphony? Great Jazz a couple times a week somewhere? Share it!

Hello, everyone.

My name's John, and I created this tribe so that people in the area might benefit from networking, sharing ideas, promoting events, and making friends in the South Eastern PA region. This can be a tribe to do whatever you want it to. Want to tell us about when your band is playing, or when a great party is happening? Feel free! Looking for a particular kind of service, and want to know who does the best job? The rest of us probably do too. I thought this might be a good forum for discussing what might be useful in this tribe. Other than just being related by region, what can we do for each other here?
